Our Story

We (Brian and Ed) grew up about 20 miles from each other in Virginia but did not meet until 2012. They were actually at North Wake Church together from 2003-2006 but traveled in different circles. Ed was sent by North Wake to Richmond, Virginia in 2006 to work in student ministry. The Kohouts stayed at North Wake and Brian served at North Raleigh Christian Academy. After six years in Richmond, Ed and Katie sensed the Lord leading them back to take part in the Church Planting Residency at North Wake Church...again, knowing nothing of the Kohouts. After a quick introduction over lunch, it was clear that the Lord had been planning this thing for a long time. As our families began spending much time together, we began to trace God’s hand over the last 10 years and were amazed at how he had prepared us apart to be together for this purpose. After much prayer and counsel from friends and church leadership, our families committed to plant Exchange Church. After North Wake Church commissioned this family of families, Exchange Church began meeting in Rolesville High School on October 6, 2013.

The Lord continues to grow Exchange in health and number. We are more committed to building a people than gathering a crowd. Exchange gathers weekly at Rolesville High and in homes for small groups in order to be scattered on mission the rest of the week. Exchange wants to be a people that serves, creates culture, and loves Rolesville. Our growth strategy is to plant more churches. Church planting is in our DNA. We pray and invest even now in our future church plants out of Exchange. We will continue to serve locally and partner with other missionaries all over the world. We have committed ourselves and our strategies to growing each and every person at Exchange one step at a time. This is slow and steady, but it is worth the personalized intentionality. We want to make disciples who make disciples, so we are laying the foundation and structure to make sure this is on the front burner at all times.
